Classic Mustang cars have been what I like ever since my Poppa showed me his 1973 Mustang. Sometimes he would let me sit in the driver seat, and if I had a special occassion, like a birthday or something, he would even take me for a ride in it. I had to sit in the back of his classic Mustang, but I pretended to be right there in the driver seat.
When Poppa would go for a Sunday drive in his classic Mustang, I would be so excited if he would remember to pick me up to go with him. I loved the powerful motor sounds it would make as he idled down the street to my house – I couldn’t wait to get in.
Well, times changed, and I grew older. More mature, I thought, and Poppa even gave the Mustang to my dad. Dad was going to restore it fully, but somehow, life got in the way for Dad, and he, sadly, gave the classic Mustang car — my dream car — back to Poppa.
Poppa was again in the driver’s seat, and on special trips to Poppa’s house, I would offer to wash the car, or wax it for him – especially the inside. That way I could sit inside it, right?
Little did I know that Poppa had a surprise for me as I turned 12 years old. It’s an important age for a guy, and my Poppa gave me an important “coming of age” present – yep, I got the Mustang!
Now, I realize its not able to be mine “on paper” as Poppa says, but I am now responsible for the Mustang. I have to finish its restoration.
Since I am home schooled, I now have my shop class figured out for the next year or so. And my Poppa is going to help me. And by the time I am old enough to drive, I will have it fully restored – then I can take Poppa for a ride in it! I’ll let him sit in the front, I think.
